Essex County Schools of Technology's Automotive Technology CTE program provides training and experience in the principles of automotive diagnosis and repair. Areas of study include: braking systems, steering and suspension systems, all-wheel alignment, welding, engine overhaul, and basic electricity including starting and charging systems. Advanced students use computerized test equipment to diagnose charging, ignition, fuel injection, and computerized engine control systems. Students will learn both basic and advanced technical skills and essential worker traits to secure and retain employment in the automotive and related fields. During the year, students participate in community service activities for school and community groups. The automotive technology program is a NATEF certified course recognized nationally for its excellence.
